Olivia Macaron Saving Bees One Macaron at a Time

Things are looking pretty gloomy in the economy and the Earth could not be happier. I have heard from many friends who live in some of the world’s most polluted cities say they have never seen the sky so blue. The earth is getting a much needed chance to heal and we need to do our best to keep it that way once we are allowed to go out again.

At Olivia Macaron, we are always looking for new ways to minimize our carbon footprint and I wanted to share with you one of the most interesting and impactful one we did this year. We were lucky enough to partner with Treehouse Farms to supply the almonds we need to create our macarons. Treehouse is a certified Bee-Friendly Farm and a member of the Pollinator Partnership in California. This farm is committed to raising bee-health awareness and protecting our pollinators through sustainable agricultural practices.

Some quick Bee Facts:

  • 1/3 of global food production relies on pollinators
  • Over 90 different crops are pollinated by commercial honeybees
  • Bees cross-pollinate almonds by moving pollen between varieties (2 flowers for 1 almond)
  • Almond bloom pollen is very nutritious for honey bees
  • Honey bee hives grow stronger from the almond bloom and often times populations increase during the almond bloom.

But our efforts will not stop here. We are committed to help make the world a better place one macaron at a time.
